Myofascial Release

Therapists at STAR Clinic are trained in Myofascial Release, an exquisite stretching technique used to decrease pain and align posture, equalizing muscle tension throughout the body. This technique is very subtle, relaxing, and long-lasting.
The "Myofascial unit" includes the fascia (connective tissue) and muscle. Many types of injury or repetitive stress can cause fascia to become short and tight.
This stress and tension often compromises correct function to seemingly unrelated parts of the body. Unequal tension can compress nerves and muscles, causing pain.
Visceral Manipulation

Healthy viscera (organs) have physiologic motion. When restricted, this motion is reduced. This can lead to functional and potential structural problems, manifesting as pain.
Visceral manipulation is a release technique using gentle, precise forces. The general principle involves using the pads of the fingers to apply slight traction to put an organ under tension, then gently mobilizing that organ while retaining tension. The manipulation is specific, with intent to guide the body into self-correction, not forced. The practitioner is in tune to the patient's body, feeling the tissue release and the return to normal motion and rhythm. Back pain is often caused by visceral disorders.
Back pain, pelvic pain or even headaches can start from visceral restriction. Past traumas often continue to reside in this area, preventing full recovery of distant areas of the body.
Please refer to "scar tissue release" for additional information, as scar tissue adhesion is a direct assault on the viscera and so easy to release!
